Nevis Studios is proud to announce the launch of its Kickstarter campaign for The Weight of Silence, a BAFTA-qualifying short film exploring men’s mental health, grief, and the unspoken weight of silence.
Starring multi award-winning Scottish actor and producer Gary Wales, The Weight of Silence is a raw, intimate drama that follows Evan, a man consumed by guilt after the death of his closest friend. Trapped in isolation and haunted by memories of a tragic accident, Evan is confronted with a chance for connection when someone from his past reaches out before leaving his life for good.
Directed and produced by Nevis Studios, the film captures the devastating toll of unspoken grief, while offering a fragile glimmer of hope. With themes echoing the emotional resonance of The Whale, this project aims not only to move audiences but to raise awareness around men’s mental health — an issue too often left in the shadows.
“Our mission with The Weight of Silence is to tell a story that feels unflinchingly honest,” says Wales. “Silence can be heavier than words, and in many cases, it’s the silence around mental health that costs lives. We want to change that.”
The Kickstarter campaign will fund:
- Production crew and equipment
- Cast and performances
- Art direction and locations
- Post-production editing, sound, and colour
- BAFTA-qualifying festival screenings
- Marketing and awareness campaigns
